ATEX Pallet Lift Description
This ATEX pallet lift is a double pillar machine with a Safe Working Load of 1000
Kgs and a lift height of 4170mm. It was designed for use in an ATEX environment
and the lifting platform was big enough to allow a standard pallet (1200 x 1000mm)
to be loaded using a hand pallet truck. At the upper level, the pallet was unloaded
by hand by removing each individual sack. The ATEX pallet lift is constructed from
Grade 304 stainless steel and would be bolted to the floor. Lifting with this ATEX
pallet lift is accomplished via chains driven by a motor gearbox mounted at the
top of the one column with a crossover shaft to the other column.
Safety Guard to PD 5304:2005 Safety of Machinery
The safety guard is constructed from 40 x 40 x 3mm stainless steel box section and
3mm wire, 40mm aperture stainless steel weld mesh and 2mm stainless steel sheet
to meet the requirements of PD5304:2005 Safety of Machinery. It would enclose the
ATEX pallet lift to a height of 4170mm with a hinged door at the ground floor level
through which the pallet can be loaded. The guard door is electrically interlocked
to prevent the ATEX pallet lift being operated with a door open and in addition,
the door is mechanically locked closed whilst the ATEX pallet lift is running. The
guard door may only be opened when the lifting carriage is at the appropriate level.

ATEX Pallet Lift Application Story
This ATEX pallet lift was designed to elevate a pallet of material from a ground
floor to an unloading level of 4170mm onto roller track mounted on a mezzanine floor
at a height of 3170mm. The full pallet was loaded through the guard door at the
ground level and the whole pallet was raised until the top level of sacks was at
the required height. Once the first layer had been removed, the ATEX pallet lift
could be inched up under ‘dead man’s handle’ control to remove subsequent layers
until the whole pallet was unloaded. This ATEX pallet lift can be mounted on an
existing floor and therefore does not require a pit to be created with the requisite
drainage issues.
The ATEX pallet lift was installed in an ATEX environment and the main control panel
was mounted remotely in an operator control room. In terms of the electrical installation,
the customer supplied and fitted an Intrinsically Safe Interface panel in the plant
room complete with all interconnecting wiring. This included the wiring to the Main
Control Panel and the IS Interface panel, to both Remote push button stations, to
both Remote Emergency Stop stations to the motor isolator and motor. We are however,
qualified and prepared to handle all plant electrical and mechanical installations
in all ATEX environments.
